Description

Outstanding Quality and Functionality, Entirely by Hand

Schramm positions the Emotion Luxe Mattress as a highly comfortable alternative to the flagship Divina — sharing the same handcrafted German manufactory philosophy, the same commitment to natural materials and no adhesives, and the same blind tacking construction that distinguishes all Schramm pocket spring mattresses. It is a mattress of outstanding quality and functionality in its own right, with a distinct character that suits those who want Schramm’s natural craftsmanship at an accessible entry point into the range.

Electrically Tempered Pocket Springs — Lasting Tension and Dynamics

The Emotion Luxe uses electrically tempered pocket springs — a step below Schramm’s thermal furnace-tempering used in the Divina, but meaningfully superior to the standard untreated springs found in most mattresses.

After winding, each spring undergoes electrical tempering — a heat treatment that stabilises the steel’s molecular structure and ensures the springs maintain their tension and dynamic response over years of regular use. Standard springs lose tension progressively under repeated compression. Electrically tempered springs retain their dynamic properties far longer, maintaining consistent support and responsiveness across the mattress’s lifespan.

Each spring is a 6-coil design, individually hand-sewn into its own cotton pocket — no adhesives used at any stage. The spring core uses 3 different spring combinations along the longitudinal axis of the mattress, calibrated to body weight and sleeping preference: Combination A1 for up to 70kg, A2 for 60–90kg, and A3 for 85–110kg. This differentiated tension progression ensures the mattress provides individually calibrated support across the body’s varying weight zones.

Cashmere, Silk and Pure New Wool — Prestigious Natural Padding

The Emotion Luxe’s padding uses a prestigious selection of natural fibres that are among the most valuable available in bedding.

Cashmere is one of the rarest natural fibres in the world — obtained once per year by combing or gently pinching cashmere goats living in the Central Asian highlands. Each animal yields only 450 to 500g of fibre annually. The hair is extraordinarily soft, fluffy, supple, and naturally temperature-regulating — providing an incomparably luxurious surface feel while actively balancing the sleeping microclimate.

Silk adds its characteristic bidirectional thermal regulation — cool in summer, warm in winter — and its uniquely smooth, skin-friendly surface quality.

Pure new wool comes from French free-range sheep living permanently in their natural outdoor environment, never exposed to pesticides. Because these sheep live in wind and weather year-round, their wool is structurally stronger than that of conventionally farmed sheep. It provides natural warmth, resilience, and the ability to absorb significant moisture before feeling damp — contributing to a dry, comfortable sleeping climate.

None of these padding materials are glued — all layers are joined by Schramm’s handcrafted blind tacking, preserving the breathability and natural properties of each fibre in its original state.

Drell Cover — Natural, Breathable, Functional

The cover uses Drell fabric — 62% cotton and 38% viscose — a traditional European ticking fabric with a distinctive woven pattern, chosen for its durability, breathability, and natural feel. The cover and padding are fixed together by handcrafted tacking without adhesives, allowing maximum air transport through the entire mattress structure.

The mattress has 4 carrying handles and is designed to be rotated regularly to distribute wear evenly.

FAQ:

Q: How does electrical tempering of springs compare to Schramm’s thermal furnace-tempering used in the Divina?

Both processes are forms of heat treatment applied to springs after winding — and both produce springs that are meaningfully superior to untreated standard springs. The difference lies in the degree and method of heat application.

Thermal furnace-tempering — used in the Divina — involves slowly heating the wound spring in an industrial furnace to very high temperatures and slowly cooling it. This deep, uniform heat treatment creates the strongest possible molecular restructuring of the steel, producing springs Schramm describes as permanently elastic, fatigue-resistant, and not subject to wear — worldwide unique.

Electrical tempering applies heat more rapidly through an electrical current. The result is springs that maintain their tension and dynamics significantly longer than untreated springs, but without the same depth of structural transformation as furnace-tempering. For everyday purposes, electrically tempered springs provide excellent long-term performance — they are a genuine quality step above standard springs and will retain consistent support over many years of use.

For buyers who want the most technically exceptional spring system available, the Divina’s furnace-tempered springs are without equal. For those who want excellent natural handcrafted quality with Schramm’s cashmere, silk, and virgin wool padding at a more accessible price point, the Emotion Luxe delivers superbly.

Q: What makes cashmere a valuable material in a mattress padding — is it meaningful or primarily a prestige signal?

Cashmere is a genuinely functional material in a mattress context — not simply a prestige signal — though it is admittedly both.

The functional properties of cashmere are well established. Its fibre has an extraordinarily fine diameter — typically 14 to 19 microns — which gives it three distinct practical advantages in bedding. First, it is exceptionally soft against the skin, reducing the risk of irritation during sleep. Second, its fine, crimped structure traps air effectively, providing natural thermal insulation and temperature-regulating properties — cashmere buffers against both heat and cold more effectively than wool. Third, its moisture absorption and release cycle is well-calibrated for sleeping conditions — absorbing perspiration without feeling damp.

The rarity context adds to its value in a different sense: each cashmere goat yields only 450 to 500g of combable fibre per year. Producing a meaningful cashmere padding layer in a mattress requires a significant quantity of this limited material — which is why its presence in the Emotion Luxe reflects a serious material investment by Schramm, not simply a label.

Q: What is Schafschurwolle Plein Air wool and how does it differ from standard sheep’s wool?

Schafschurwolle Plein Air — literally “fresh air sheep’s wool” — is a specific designation for wool from French free-range sheep that live permanently outdoors in their natural environment, year-round, without chemical pesticide treatment.

The distinction from standard farmed wool is meaningful at the fibre level. Conventionally farmed sheep are typically kept indoors for significant portions of the year, often treated with pesticides, and sheared under controlled conditions. Their wool, while still a natural fibre, reflects a more managed and chemically treated origin.

Plein Air sheep live in wind, weather, and natural conditions throughout their lives. Their wool develops greater structural strength and resilience — the fibre is stronger because it has to withstand genuine environmental stress. It also carries no pesticide residue, making it a cleaner material at the point of skin contact.

In a mattress padding context, Plein Air wool provides natural warmth regulation, high moisture absorption capacity, and excellent resilience — maintaining its loft and performance over years of use without the chemical concerns associated with conventionally treated wool.

Q: How do I choose between the three spring tension combinations A1, A2 and A3?

The three spring combinations are calibrated to body weight ranges, and the choice is primarily determined by how much you weigh and secondarily by your sleeping position and firmness preference.

A1 (up to 70kg) uses the softest spring combination — appropriate for lighter sleepers where firmer springs would provide too much resistance and create pressure points rather than conforming to the body’s contours. A2 (60–90kg) covers the middle weight range with a balanced spring combination that suits most sleepers — the widest range reflects that average-weight sleepers have the most flexibility in firmness preference. A3 (85–110kg) uses the firmest combination — necessary for heavier sleepers to prevent excessive sinking that would compromise spinal alignment and the mattress’s longevity.

The weight ranges deliberately overlap to reflect the personal preference dimension: a 75kg sleeper who prefers a firmer feel may prefer A3, while a 75kg sleeper who sleeps on their side and prefers a softer contouring feel may prefer A2. We strongly recommend visiting our showroom in central Tbilisi to experience the combinations in person, as the right choice depends on your individual body and sleeping style. Q: The Schramm Emotion Luxe costs more than standard pocket spring mattresses — what justifies the investment?

The Emotion Luxe’s price reflects the same core quality commitments that define all Schramm mattresses — and each one represents a genuine cost difference from standard production.

The electrically tempered springs maintain tension and dynamics for significantly longer than untreated springs. More than 450 springs are individually hand-sewn into cotton pockets — the labour investment in this process alone is substantial, and no automated production line replicates it. The multi-zone spring differentiation with 3 calibrated tension combinations requires individual mattress specification rather than mass production.

The cashmere, silk, and Plein Air virgin wool padding represents premium natural materials at meaningful fill levels — cashmere at 450 to 500g per animal annually is one of the scarcest textile fibres in the world. The blind tacking construction without any adhesives requires skilled artisanal labour and preserves the natural properties of each material.

Schramm has been building mattresses by hand in Germany since 1923. The expertise, standards, and material relationships built over a century of family manufactory production are embedded in every mattress — and cannot be replicated in a volume production environment at any price. For a product that is in contact with your body for 7 to 8 hours every night, the quality of its materials and construction is one of the most consequential purchases you make for your long-term health and wellbeing.
