White is processed. Ecru is not — or at least, it appears that way. The warm, natural-looking tone of the 101 sits between cream and raw cotton. It has a faint yellow-beige undertone. In a bathroom, this makes a real difference. Where white feels clinical, ecru feels considered. It suits natural materials — stone, timber, linen — in a way that pure white sometimes does not.
Why This Tone Is Harder to Achieve Than It Looks
Ecru may look natural, but it is still dyed. Moreover, achieving a consistent warm neutral across a 700 g/m² pile is technically demanding. Pale warm tones show any variation in dye uptake immediately as patchiness. Because Abyss & Habidecor piece-dyes the entire cloth after weaving, the ecru is consistent across every element.
