The Velfont Igloo does something that most mattress protectors do not: it actively improves the sleeping experience rather than simply preserving the mattress beneath it. The outer fabric is made from 100% Outlast® thermoregulating cotton, the same NASA-developed technology used across the Velfont Fresh and Frost range. Millions of phase-change microcapsules embedded in the cotton fabric react dynamically to the body’s heat output throughout the night. As the sleeper’s temperature rises, the microcapsules absorb excess heat and store it. As the body cools between sleep cycles or as night temperatures drop, that stored heat is released back. The result is a sleeping surface that self-regulates continuously, maintaining a constant, personalised microclimate that eliminates the temperature swings — and the restless sleep they cause — that warm sleepers experience night after night.
What distinguishes the Igloo from the Frost is its quilted construction. Between the Outlast® outer fabric and the cotton base layer sits a filling of 100% natural cotton, quilted in place to create a padded sleeping surface. This cotton filling serves two functions simultaneously. First, it adds meaningful cushioning — relieving the pressure points at hips, shoulders, and heels, and introducing a layer of softness to the mattress surface that a flat protector cannot provide. Second, natural cotton acts as a thermal insulator, further buffering the sleeping environment from temperature extremes and enhancing the thermoregulating effect of the Outlast® fabric above it.
The quilted construction also promotes air circulation through the padding itself, preventing the accumulation of humidity within the protector and ensuring the sleeping surface remains fresh, dry and breathable — a particular advantage for those who use memory foam or latex mattresses, which naturally retain more heat than spring alternatives.
The Igloo fits in the standard fitted-sheet format, with a fully elasticated border that adjusts securely to mattresses up to 200cm in length and 35cm in depth, staying in place throughout the night without shifting. An outer trim gives a clean, polished finish beneath the fitted sheet.
