What Chenille Yarn Actually Is
The word chenille comes from the French for caterpillar. This refers to the physical structure of the yarn. Short fibres are woven perpendicular to a core thread and then cut. This creates a pile that radiates outward in all directions — like a caterpillar. As a result, the total fibre surface area is much greater than in a flat or twisted yarn. More surface area means faster absorption and a softer feel against the skin.
