The Moosburger A-RS is not a standard neck pillow. It is a precision-engineered sleep tool produced by a five-generation Austrian family business that has specialised in horsehair bedding since the 1980s.
The curved A-shape is designed specifically for the human neck. The two raised side sections support the head when sleeping on either side. The lower central section accommodates back sleepers by allowing the neck to rest at its natural angle without forced elevation.

RS stands for Rosshaar — the German term for horsehair and related natural animal hair used in bedding. Cattle tail hair is slightly softer than horse tail hair and is specifically recommended by Moosburger for pillow use because it conforms more gently to the head and neck.
The hair is tightly twisted during processing and then untwisted and combed by hand to maximise volume and elasticity. As a result, the fill is resilient and supportive without feeling hard or compressed.

The cover is a cotton damask weave — tightly woven enough to contain the hair fill while allowing airflow. Furthermore, it is free from synthetic treatments, pesticides, and harmful finishing agents.
The cover can be removed and washed at up to 60°C.

Cattle tail hair is a natural animal fibre collected from the tails of cows. Moosburger processes it entirely in-house — cleaning, combing, and preparing it at their own facility in Austria. The RS-grade hair used in the A-RS is slightly softer than horse tail hair, making it better suited to pillow use. The individual hair strands are naturally resilient and elastic — they compress under the weight of your head and spring back when pressure is released.
Furthermore, natural hair creates a dense network of air channels inside the pillow. Air flows freely throughout the fill, keeping the sleeping surface cool and dry. This breathability is something neither down, latex, nor synthetic foam can replicate at the same level.
Which sleeping positions does the Moosburger A-RS suit?
The A-RS is designed for both back sleepers and side sleepers. The two raised curved ends support the head when lying on either side, holding the cervical spine in a neutral position. The lower central section allows back sleepers to rest with the neck in its natural curve without excessive upward pressure. However, the A-RS is less suited to stomach sleepers. Stomach sleeping creates a rotational angle in the neck that a supportive pillow cannot easily accommodate. If you sleep primarily on your stomach, a flatter pillow would be more appropriate.
The adjustable fill makes the A-RS adaptable — if the pillow feels too high for your shoulder width when side sleeping, hair can be removed. If you want more support, hair can be added.
