A Design Classic, Now in Real Wood
The Auping Essential is one of the best-known bed designs in Europe. In 2026, Auping gave it a warmer look. The headboard now comes in real wood with a visible grain and a soft matte finish. It curves gently around you, so the bed feels calm and inviting.
This version has a dark wood headboard. It sits on a slim aluminium frame with tapered legs.
Dark Wood for a Warm, Cosy Bedroom
A dark wood headboard gives the bedroom depth and warmth. It stands out against light walls and looks rich next to grey, beige or deep-coloured textiles. As a result, the bed becomes the calm centre of the room. You can also order the floating side table and the raised legs in the same wood for a complete look.
Scandinavian Design by Köhler & Wilms
The Berlin design duo Claudia Köhler and Irmy Wilms created the Essential. Their goal was simple: a bed with nothing extra. Clean lines, a slim frame and tapered legs make it fit almost any interior. The design has won several international awards.
Made to Last, Made to Be Recycled
Auping makes every Essential by hand in its own factory in Deventer, the Netherlands. The company has made beds there for more than 135 years. The Essential was the world's first fully recyclable bed. Its frame is made from 87% recycled aluminium, and this metal can be recycled again and again. Auping is also a certified B Corp. In addition, the Essential comes with a 5-year Auping warranty and is built to last more than 20 years.
