Hefel

Hefel is an Austrian family manufacturer founded in 1907 and now run by the fourth generation of the family. Everything is still made in Austria, at two sites — Schwarzach in Vorarlberg and Kefermarkt in Upper Austria. Hefel also operates the only ticking weaving mill left in Europe, which means it is the only bedding maker in the world producing a duvet entirely in-house: from the yarn to the fabric, the filling and the quilting.

What defines the brand is natural fibre. Hefel pioneered TENCEL™ Lyocell in bedding back in 1998 — a fibre made from wood that regulates temperature and moves moisture away from the body rather than holding it. That makes the duvets breathable, notably light, and well suited to people with a dust-mite allergy, since good moisture management leaves bacteria little to work with.

The range goes well beyond one fibre: pure silk, bamboo, hemp, merino wool, camel hair, cashmere, and a vegan collection. There are duvets for hot summer nights and duvets for winter, all built on the same principle — the fill regulates the sleeping climate instead of simply insulating.

Every Hefel duvet is made and checked piece by piece, by specialists who in many cases represent several generations of the same families.
